The Female Qiang Embroider Employment Center in Aba Prefecture, the reconstruction initiative of “One Foundation’s Qiang Embroidery Aid Project” established after Wenchuan Earthquake donated RMB 80,000 to the earthquake victims in Haiti via One Foundation on January 15th, 2010, on behalf of 8,000 female embroiderers it supported in the three counties of Wenchuan, Li and Mao.
The world gathered its focus and care in Wenchuan after the May 12th Earthquake, which connected the people in Wenchuan to the globe. Having heard of the Haitian Earthquake, each of the 8,000 female embroiderers in the Center donated RMB 10 to the victims in Haiti, amounting the total of RMB 80,000. Wenchuan, Li and Mao counties are not only the most severely-hit areas in Wenchuan Earthquake, but also the home of over 300,000 Qiang people in China. The disaster imposed negative impacts on the Qiang region, making the residents hard to find a job in other regions or through usual approaches. However, Qiang women are known for their useful and delicate techniques of Qiang embroidery. Thus, following the field visits in Wenchuan, Li and Mao in Aba Prefecture and under the support of local governments, One Foundation established the Qiang Women Employment Center in Aba and officially launched the Qiang Embroidery Aid Project in July 2008. |
