C. Poverty Alleviation:
① Qiang Embroidery Aid Project in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region
Project location: Wen, Li and Mao county in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region
Project time: July 2008 – June 2011
Project objective: help 3,000 Qiang women get employed by the year 2008, 10,000 by 2009 and 30,000 in 2011.
Project introduction: The project is a long-term and consistent effort for reconstruction and folk culture preservation. It aims at creating employment opportunities for Qiang women by recruiting and training them as professional embroidery makers. Meanwhile, the execution of the project will strive to protect and salvage Qiang embroidery as China 's national intangible cultural heritage. Through spontaneous cooperation and working with global design teams, new patters and products will add to the competitive edge of the traditional are of Qiang embroidery. One Foundation will work with Employment Bureau in Wenchuan, Mao and Li county to organize trainings for Qiang women. Employment offices will be built in these counties contracting graduated Qiang women. Salaries will be paid every month; the amount depends on workload and output. The project creates a new livelihood for Qiang women. Qiang embroidery workshops are labor intensive, the development of Qiang embroidery will help boost local economy.
Project framework: One Foundation provides funding, Qiang Embroidery Aid Center in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region manages and execute the project.
Project progress: Project is underway after a few trials. Production and sales went well. 9 aid centers have been built, employing over 600 Qiang women and are planning to expand production capability to meet increasing orders. Through marketing, the workshops have received more than 100,000 orders, demand exceeds supply.

② One Foundation Small Loans Project in Qingchuan
Project location: Qingchuan county.
Project introduction: Qingchuan county administrates 36 counties, 209 villages, with a farming population of nearly 200,000 and almost 50,000 farming households. The project will provide small loans though working with credit cooperative and Qingchuan county poverty alleviation office. 5 local companies in the business of livestock breeding and mushroom & agarics planting will provide one stop service to help farmers. Through subsidy, over 10,000 affected farming households can apply for small loans from credit cooperative and resuming farming activities.
Project framework: One Foundation provides subsidy to pay for the interests of small loans. Qingchuan local government leads credit cooperatives and processing companies to help resume farming.
Project progress: One Foundation staffs have finished on-spot survey, defined detailed amount with local credit cooperatives and reached agreements with local processing companies to provide farmers with long term tech & financial support. The project proposals are being submitted.

③ One Foundation Gradual Housing Project
Project location: Yujiang village, Luoshui county of Shifang city
Project introduction: 1. Identify terrain and people's needs through investigation and survey to find out the most feasible gradual housing plan that balances the needs of everyday life, eco-environment, production and reconstruction of social structures. 2. Three example houses will be constructed in Shifang city: one out of deserted materials, one brick and board house and one makeshift tent house. These three houses serve as examples for reconstruction and are vital to resume normal living space. The brick and board house will be used as caring center for underprivileged groups and One Foundation's training center. The one out of deserted materials can be utilized as offices for village committee and Green Cross. The makeshift tent house can be used as refreshing station for volunteers and nursing personnel. 4. Project is based on the needs of human and nature when take in consideration of biological, cultural variety, tourism resources, farming and sustainable development. 5. Villager participation will form the main approach of the project. The project aims at integrating eco-friendly design to the current output-linked household contracted responsibility system to achieve village self-governance by advocating the hardworking and enterprising spirit and self-reliance attitude.
Project framework: One Foundation provides funding and guidance, Beijing Yanqing county Green Cross Eco-Cultural Center executes and manages the project.
Project progress: One Foundation staffs have finished on-spot survey and made a project proposal. The proposal is pending for approval from Red Cross Society of China.
